The District of Summerland has an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated Director of Works and Utilities.  This challenging position will report to the Chief Administrative Officer and will be a key member of the District’s senior management team.

The Director of Works and Utilities is accountable for safe and effective management, planning and day to day operations of the District’s roads, water, wastewater, storm systems, electrical utility, facilities, parks and supervision of capital works projects. The Director is the senior engineering advisor for the District and provides direction and coordination of the District’s engineering processes, the development and completion of strategic planning and analysis of the District’s transportation, environmental and utility requirements.  Responsibilities include ensuring that policies, regulations, and objectives laid out by Council are carried out correctly and efficiently and that strategic, financial and operating goals are met.

The successful individual will possess strong leadership skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, the ability to exercise considerable independent judgement and initiative and a good understanding of municipal government and its practices.

The preferred candidate will have an engineering degree.  Graduates from a technical institute in a program oriented toward municipal engineering or public works will be considered.  In addition, a minimum of five years related experience at a management level in local government is required.
