Greater Victoria Public Library (GVPL) is an innovative library system with one of the highest per capita usage rates in Canada. Our vision is to inspire literacy, lifelong learning and community enrichment for all. Serving more than 318,000 residents in the Greater Victoria area, we provide library service to 10 municipalities.

Reporting to the CEO, the Director of Communications and Development is a highly motivated individual who is a member of the senior leadership team and is relied on for creativity and professional experience in public relations, media marketing and fundraising strategies. Aligned with the organization’s Strategic Plan and priorities, this position will be responsible for directing the library’s media and public relations, marketing and communications planning, and developing GVPL’s fundraising initiatives.

We are looking for a confident, strategic-thinking individual with a detail-oriented approach to work, with proven leadership experience and skills who can build trusting relationships with all internal and external stakeholders.

Our ideal candidate has:

Degree or diploma in a discipline related to Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, English or other related area;
Minimum of 5 years’ proven experience in areas of public relations, marketing, fundraising and community liaison;
Demonstrated knowledge of marketing and communications with organizations in a multi-stakeholder environment and understanding of media relations, marketing, social media and fundraising principles (including grants, major gifts, donor recognition, and planned giving);
Excellent communicator, both written and orally.
