The buyer/storekeeper is responsible for a wide range of duties related to maintaining a stores operation, including procuring, receiving, storing and issuing goods involved in District operations; operating a fork lift to move, store and distribute various items as required; maintaining accounting and other records, both computerized and manual, in order to properly record all transactions to and from stores; maintaining close liaison and cooperation with customers; maintaining the stores area in a clean and orderly manner; ensuring minimum and maximum stock levels are maintained; and conducting inventory counts.
You will possess current methods of procuring, receiving, shipping, issuing and storing a wide variety of goods and have good knowledge of requirements and functions of the municipal departments served. You will be physically able to lift items, move and store items normally associated with a municipal stores operation with the ability to operate a forklift.
The ideal person will bring a minimum of three years of experience in storekeeping/warehousing, inventory control and procurement along with courses in topics such as inventory control and warehousing and procurement an accredited post-secondary institution such as BCIT or a professional association such as the Supply Chain Management Association of BC or APICS or academic equivalent.
The 2015 wage rate for this CUPE position is $31.55 per hour plus 16% in lieu of benefits or an optional benefit package upon completion of probation. This position works a fixed 4-day week schedule from 8:00 a.m. to noon and must be available to work additional hours for vacation/workload relief.
