Job Summary

Working in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment, the Quality Control Officer assesses the quality of product delivered to the company; rates the quality of the product; identifies deliveries requiring claims; documents claims and prepares reports; receives customer returns and makes decisions on their disposition and liaises with the Canada Food Inspection Agency. The Quality Control Officer must be able to lift heavy weights; have the ability to operate a forklift and be vigilant regarding safety in a physically tight environment.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks

Receives all produce delivered to the warehouse
Checks all paperwork, ensuring the order matches the product received;
Checks generic grades provided by the packer
Assesses received produce and assigns a quality rating of 1-5; documents on invoice
Notes any relevant anomalies such as condition and packing
When required, posts notice of intent to claim; takes photographs and otherwise documents claims; notes temperature of product received
Makes claims reports and makes recommendations on how to proceed
Provides claim report, tracks product being claimed and writes a final report on the disposition of the product
Receives customer returns and decides on disposition
Liaises with CFIA (Canada Food Inspection Agency) regarding notices of inspection; ensures produce to be inspected is accessible; answers questions
Undertakes quality checking of all product in the warehouse;
Regularly reports on amount/numbers of product to Purchasing
Develops and submits a “# 2” list of produce for discount sales
Assembles and documents produce for donations
Identifies product for composting and may assemble pallets for pick-up
May gas product which is at risk of moulding
Keeps a temperature log of all coolers
Maintains a pest control log and liaises with pest control agency monthly or as needed

Minimum Requirements

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing
Demonstrated ability to multi-task and juggle competing priorities
Demonstrated ability to read and write English
Food Safe 1 Certificate
Ability to lift heavy weights
Ability to work in a physically crowded environment which requires constant awareness of equipment, people and stacked pallets of produce
Demonstrated punctuality
Experience in the produce industry
Ability to operate a forklift would be an asset
