The Orb Factory Limited, a locally owned and operated toy company in Halifax, NS, that designs and distributes creative art kits in over 50 countries, is looking for a Supply Chain Manager in a permanent position, reporting to the Director of Engineering and Supply Chain.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Manage activities related to strategic purchasing, materials requirements, forecasting, planning, inventory control, warehousing and deliverables
Maintain alignment between sales requirements, factory capacity and warehouse capacity
Collaborate with other departments to develop strategies to minimize any risk that may interfere with the supply chain
Design and maximize ocean container shipments
Assist in balancing inventory between warehouses
Assess appropriate warehouse requirements, including use of space and materials handling equipment
Ensure best warehouse practices are being implemented
Develop strategies to minimize component inventories
Ensure unused component and raw materials inventories are properly re-tasked, re-used, or re-cycled to minimize financial and physical waste
Document all processes, such as workflows, lead times, position responsibilities, etc.
Diagram supply chain models to facilitate discussions with staff and customers
Develop procedures for coordination of supply chain management with other functional areas such as sales, marketing, finance, production and quality assurance.
Participate in coordination of engineering changes, product line extensions, or new product launches to ensure orderly and timely production flow
Analyze inventories to determine how to increase inventory turns, reduce waste, and optimize customer service
Analyze information about performance from all parts of supply chain; provide advice on strategies for improvement
Define performance metrics for measurement, comparison or evaluation of supply chain, such as product cost and quantity
Participate in defining performance metrics for measurement of your own performance
Implement supply chain strategies that support environmental policies and best industry practices
A general understanding of shipping methods, terms and associated fees structures
Communicating with transportation suppliers on rate negotiation and ensuring excellent customer service with distribution to our customers as well as our ocean transportation
Communicating with customs officials at US ports as well as the US / Canada borders
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree required; Supply Chain, Business, or Technical field preferred
Three plus years of Supply Chain Management experience in toy/gift industry preferred
Must be adept at using Microsoft Excel
Understands the basic principles and operations of ERP systems. Experience with NetSuite would be an asset
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with strong results/goal orientation
Proven capability in identifying and analyzing information to make decisions and solve problems
