Job Description :
This position plays a key role within a team of professionals managing claims, risk management and general insurance services delivery for the AMSC Insurance Program.
AMSC is responsible for all servicing, underwriting, claims management and risk management activities related to all products purchased or accessed by the members. Direct insurance lines include Property, Liability, and Physical Damage Auto. A working knowledge of Umbrella, Auto, Crime, Equipment Breakdown, Environmental Liability and Aviation is beneficial.
Purpose of the Position:
Ensure Members have timely and effective access to report claims.
Ensure that financial reserving is adequate and that claims are closed in a timely manner.
Members receive timely and accurate responses to enquiries regarding the status of their claims.
Members are assisted in understanding how and why liability is determined and what risk management techniques can be utilized to prevent further occurrences.
The Risk and Claims Manager reports to the Senior Director of Risk and Claims.
Major responsibilities of this position include:
Customer Support, Relationship Management and Development.
Examine complex liability and property claims.
Manage the workflow of in house examiners and review their work for quality assurance.
Mentor claims staff as required.
Provide information derived from the claims settlement process to the Senior Director Risk & Claims and the Director, Insurance Services, in support of development and delivery of risk management initiatives.
Advise and assist Senior Director, Risk & Claims with risk management services.
Monitor and report on all major losses.
Financial Management Practices and Processes:
As required, participate in the information management and reporting processes needed to ensure the fiscal integrity of the claims program.
General:
Providing advice and background for communicating to members.
Implements quality control in respect of the activities of the independent adjusters including amending or adding new protocols as necessary.
Meet regularly with Senior Director Risk & Claims and department colleagues to discuss operations, and work with them to make improvements in process and procedures as required.
Education:
Post-Secondary education in relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum of 8 years commercial insurance claims experience. Preference will be given to a candidate with a CIP designation, or who is enrolled in courses offered through the Insurance Institute of Canada with the committed goal of obtaining CIP or FCIP. CRM would be considered very beneficial.
Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
Extensive experience in an office environment using computerized information systems for claims and risk management.
Experience:
The successful incumbent will possess:
An excellent working knowledge of commercial insurance products, including, Property/Casualty/Auto /Boiler & Machinery etc.
Extensive experience as a claims manager or senior claims examiner and experience handling complicated litigated claims and large property losses. Track record of supervising and motivating staff.
Direct significant experience in the customer interface portion of delivery of insurance claims services. The ability to interact with municipal administrations and or elected officials to identify their concerns and needs in respect of claims and related services.
Risk Management experience with the municipal and non-profit sector.
The ability to develop sound relationships with key partners and service providers and provide sound advice on emerging issues.
Well-developed communication and relationship management skills.
