The Environmental Law Centre (ELC) is the only public interest environmental law organization in Alberta that provides public education and pursues legal reform on environment, energy and natural resources policies, laws and regulations. At the ELC, we believe that law is one of the most powerful tools to protect the environment.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Marketing & Fundraising Director will work with key stakeholders to develop the Marketing, Communications and Fundraising Strategy and lead initiatives to raise revenue to support the ELC’s programmes. Key activities will include: increasing organizational revenue; growing the number of individual and organisational supporters; and strengthen and build relationships with current supporters to increase retention and lifetime value; and raising awareness of the ELC in Alberta and Canada.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Marketing, Communications & Fundraising Strategy and Planning

Develop and update the long-term Marketing, Communications & Fundraising strategy in consultation with key stakeholders
Develop and update the annual marketing, communications & fundraising activity plan; Activities include, without limitation, developing online marketing/ online fundraising solutions; developing, programming and executing traditional and online marketing campaigns; developing and executing SEM campaigns and SEO activities; Google Analytics set-up and analysis, developing and executing digital advertising campaigns, and developing/managing social networking properties and campaigns
Develop and implement 90-day marketing, communications and fundraising plans
Develop developing strategies and plans for key activities and campaigns including direct marketing, regular giving, corporate partnerships, major donors, events, community fundraising, digital marketing, public relations and government relations
Input into the development of the ELC’s strategic plan, business plan and work plans

2. Strategic Partnerships and Major Donor Stewardship

Work with internal and external key stakeholders to grow the strategic partnerships pipeline
Prepare proposals, presentations and contracts for partners
Build and maintain relationships with existing partners and supporters
Guide and assist in preparing applications for relevant trusts and foundations
Manage and grow the major donor program and annual ELC events

3. Brand Management and Communications

Develop annual public relations plans and achieve effective media coverage
Manage external agencies to develop marketing collateral for upcoming campaigns
Work with ELC staff on the maintenance of the ELC website and annual report
Manage and grow the ELC brand in line with the ELC’s strategic plan
Work with key stakeholders to develop the donor communications matrix

4. Leadership and Staff Development

Lead and motivate ELC staff to deliver outcomes in line with strategy, budget and timelines
Develop, monitor and provide feedback to ELC staff

5. Budgeting and Reporting

Prepare annual budgets and monthly cash-flow
Prepare reports to be submitted to the Executive Director for presentation to the Board and ELC staff
Regularly track and report on marketing, communications and fundraising results

QUALIFICATIONS

Related post-secondary education, preferably in business, marketing and/or online marketing/e-commerce; or equivalent combination of education and related experience
5 -7 years of marketing, communications, fundraising and digital management and online marketing experience, including experience in developing online marketing/online fundraising solutions, executing e-mail marketing campaigns, SEO/SEM campaigns, Google Analytics and social networking
Demonstrated experience in project and client management
Experience with online fundraising platforms, content management systems & database management
Experience with online data collection and analysis and report development
Excellent organizational, time management, communication, problem solving, writing and analytical skills
Customer focus to interact with staff, donors, volunteers and members of the general public
Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment
Enthusiastic, self-motivated and proactive with a demonstrated desire to make a solid commitment to the ELC’s vision and mission
Active membership in the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), including adherence to AFP’s Code of Ethics an asset
Experience working in a large multi-level or non-profit organization an asset
Experience in the environmental non-profit sector an asset
A Criminal Records Check and Reference Checks will be required

Work location is flexible (i.e. Edmonton or Calgary).
