Manager of Finance – BC Water and Waste Association – Vancouver, British Columbia

The BC Water & Waste Association has an immediate, full-time opportunity for a Manager of Finance. The Manager of Finance is responsible for managing the association’s full-cycle financial accounting systems, to provide accurate and timely reporting of financial performance, support planning decisions, and manage risk. This position reports to the CEO and works with the CEO and program managers.

About the role:

Manage the BCWWA’s full-cycle accounting function including:
Establish, maintain and manage all accounting and reporting systems, ensuring accurate financial records and reports, and compliance with appropriate GAAP for not-for profit organizations and regulatory requirements.
Establish and manage finance processes and controls, ensuring they are designed to mitigate risk and provide accurate records; monitor compliance and address any gaps.
Lead the annual budgeting and financial planning process; administer and review all financial plans and compare to actual results, with a view to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate.
Coordinate with Board-appointed auditing firm for year-end audit, financial reporting, and tax filing.
Manage and track the performance of invested assets, in keeping with policies and investment guidelines.
Oversee processing of day-to-day business transactions, including bank deposits, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and expense claims.
Produce quarterly financial statements and narrative explanation of performance; contribute content to Management Discussion & Analysis documents for Board.
Produce quarterly cash flow and spending forecasts.
Prepare monthly reconciliations of bank statements, expense reports, and petty cash.
Prepare government remittances including WCB, GST / HST.
Manage payroll and benefits for all employees.
Maintain corporate records, including annual reports and related filings required by the BC Society’s Act and the Board.
Oversee office systems and information technology, including equipment, IT vendors, and insurance.

About you:

5 to 7+ years of experience in progressively responsible finance and accounting roles.
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline and professional accounting designation preferred (CGA, CMA, CA, CPA).
Experience providing full-cycle accounting for a small to medium sized enterprise.
Knowledge of Canadian generally accepted accounting principles for not-for-profit organizations.
Proficient with Sage 50 or 100 Accounting and Microsoft Office.
Experience in evaluating and implementing accounting and operational systems is an asset.
Knowledge of payroll rules and related filing requirements.
Fluent written and oral communication skills in English.
Exceptional attention to detail – you are driven to always get it “right” and take pride in providing accuracy in all work.
Highly analytical, with effective problem-solving skills – you are able to identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and implement solutions; you are comfortable with change and ambiguity.
