Human Resources Coordinator – Payroll – Resort Municipality of Whistler

The Resort Municipality of Whistler is a one-of-a-kind community and is often recognized as the number one mountain and ski resort destination in North America. The Human Resources (HR) department has an opportunity for qualified individuals to apply for the position of HR Coordinator – Payroll. Reporting to the Director of HR, this position offers 72 hours bi-weekly starting immediately.

The Coordinator is responsible for the preparation and processing of full cycle payroll activities not limited to; compiling and remitting reports, statements and summaries; investigating and adjusting payroll discrepancies; maintaining accurate records; performing year-end financial activities and applying all contractual entitlements for non-union and union agreements. Additionally, this position will provide formal training on the payroll system for employees and supervisors and be available to answer a variety of payroll queries.

Qualified candidates will have a minimum of 3 years related experience working with a complex payroll system, have completed the Canadian Payroll Compliance Practitioner program as well as hold a bachelor degree in business, Human Resources or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Individuals must have the strong ability to understand and generate financial records and accurately apply Canadian provincial and federal payroll processes, procedures and legislation, union and non-union agreements and internal organizational policies. Candidates must also have extensive experience working with HR and payroll software, report writing and troubleshooting issues; proficiency with Microsoft excel; the strong ability to be tactful, diplomatic and maintain confidentiality in sensitive situations, communicate clearly when explaining payroll calculations and policy; and must be able to effectively handle urgent requests and meet firm bi-weekly deadlines. Working towards a CPHR designation is an asset.

The successful candidate is an approachable, helpful and customer service focused individual who demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills. Additionally, has the proven abilities to work well independently, build and maintain effective working relationships and positively contribute to a team environment. As a requirement of the position, the successful applicant must hold a valid class 5 BC driver’s license and must provide a satisfactory drivers abstract and a satisfactory Police Information Check prior to beginning employment.
