The Town of Fort Macleod is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated leader to manage its Financial Department. The Financial Officer is accountable to the Chief Administrative Officer and is responsible for the leadership of the Department including finance, taxation, risk management, utilities and legislative services.

The Financial Officer is responsible for providing leadership and direction in all aspects of financial management including:

The ability to implement financial internal controls, policies and processes and financial systems
The leader will ensure departments are providing timely and accurate financial information on a regular basis for decisions making a budgeting purposes
Leading the operational and capital budget development
Providing information and recommendations to the CAO, Council and departments on financial issues, analysis and long range financial planning

We are seeking a resulted-oriented leader with considerable knowledge of public sector financial accounting reporting principals and working knowledge of the MGA. The ideal candidate will have:

Completion of the majority of course work toward as a professional designation (CA, CGA or CMA) supplemented with at least (5) years of progressive managerial experience in local government
Familiarity and understanding of Alberta Municipal Government Acts, bylaws, policies and procedures
Excellent verbal and written communication and public relations skills
Ability to work collaboratively, ensuring interpersonal skills contribute to the effective team functioning and performance
Thorough knowledge of principals, best practises and concepts related to financial management and accounting in municipal setting
