Financial Director – Sustainability Solutions Group – Preferrably BC, Ontario

Job purpose

Sustainability Solutions Group is seeking to hire a Financial Director to work 2 days a week, with potential for increased employment over time. The Financial Director is responsible for overseeing and organizing SSG’s finances and financial planning.

Qualifications

The candidate will have academic and 3 years experiential qualifications in some or all of these areas: finance, commerce, MBA, accounting, bookkeeping.

Duties and responsibilities

The Financial Director’s duties and responsibilities include the following:

Cash flow management and invoicing

Prepare and issue invoices and maintain contact with clients on financial aspects.
Manage transactions with suppliers and customers.
Monitor and manage accounts and report on cash flow.
Banking.

Strategic

Develop capitalization strategies with the Board.
Oversee budgeting and financial goal setting.
Support the development of key performance indicators (KPIs) for the directors, members and staff.

Monthly financial analysis

Oversee the close of month end by the 14th of the month.
Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements and KPIs, and analysis of the results.
Report to the Directors on monthly budgets and actuals, provide further analysis and recommend actions.
Provide a rolling 12 month cash flow projection.
Participate in management team meetings, strategic planning, business planning, etc.
Prepare monthly report of all active projects.

Financial management

Participate in preparation of financial projections in close cooperation with SSG Directors.
Collate annual projections and forecasts with SSG Directors.
Develop, implement and monitor financial policies and procedures.
Recommend and complete financial analysis and systems improvements.
Manage the year end, including liaising with auditor.
File taxes (including but not limited to Revenu Quebec, Revenue Canada, HST, T4s).
Model financial scenarios to inform management decisions when needed.

Admin

Undertake general bookkeeping.
Manage insurance and workers compensation documentation and accounts.
Prepare and reconcile Payroll and T4 Remittances.
Review and file contracts.
Software

SSG uses tools including Simply Accounting, Wagepoint, Google docs, Excel, Harvest and Expensify so it is expected that the candidate would continue to use these tools.

Proficiency with financial management and reporting
Experience with Simply Accounting, Excel and Google doc
Familiarity with and enthusiasm for workers co-operatives
Ability to work in a non-hierarchical environment
Comfortability with working virtually
Excellent communications skills

Working conditions

The Financial Director will work from home or a shared office (eg: HiVE Vancouver). SSG staff and Directors work in Vancouver, Montreal, Tatamagouche, NS, Bristol, UK and New York, thus proficient virtual communications (ie: online) is required. The successful candidate can work from their place of choosing.
