As the Financial Controller, you will take on an exciting and dynamic role as you oversee and are immersed in all accounting, financial and budgeting at Columbia College. Leading a team of five, you will perform key accounting functions at the College, as well as provide leadership and training to your department. Closely linked to the daily, monthly, and annual financial activities of the College, you will find no two days the same.
As a seasoned accountant, you have the operational and technical skills to provide sound advice within your department and across the organization. Key to the role is the responsibility to apply standards with professional judgement, integrity, ethics, and transparency while ensuring adherence to the Public-Sector Accounting (PSA) standards. Your career highlights include the successful implementation of accounting, budgeting and financial initiatives and having been part of an overall financial strategic plan that is linked to the success of organizational goals and objectives. You work effectively under tight time-lines and can manage multiple projects; delegating responsibility where appropriate. You have a great ability to communicate to your staff and can offer training and mentoring to advance both the staff that reports to you and the professional staff that you support.
Essential to your success and in moving the organization forward are your well-honed interpersonal, communication and presentation skills. Equally important is your ability to build and maintain strong relationships with multiple stakeholders, to influence, innovate, adapt, and grow professionally, and to manage change. You have an innate ability to communicate the most complex accounting, budget and financial information to diverse groups of people in an easily understandable manner. You are not afraid to roll up your sleeves and be involved in all aspects of the financial, accounting and budgeting needs of the College.
You have a professional accounting designation and at least 5 years related experience in a senior role, preferably within the Not-for Profit or the education sectors. Your career path to-date will be diverse and progressive. You are interested in technology and use integrated systems to manage HRIS, payroll, accounting, as well as data analysis.
A self-starter, you can see what needs done, but are willing to listen to others along the way to ensure the outcomes of plans and directions are clear to everyone. You have excellent communications skills and enjoy working within a diverse community of learners and educators.
