Summary:
The Finance Manager will be responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting functions for the Lil’wat Nation. This will include overseeing accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, cash handling, month-end close, and internal financial statement preparation. The Finance Manager will support program managers with their monthly variance analysis, quarterly forecasting and annual budgeting activities. In addition the Finance Manager will assist the Director of Finance with the coordination of the annual audit and budget processes. Good working knowledge of internal controls and strong interpersonal communication skills are required. Finance Manager will bring strong leadership skills to a team of 5 people.
Duties:
Manage the recruiting, training, supervising and performance management of the five member Finance team
Work collaboratively with the Finance team and program managers to achieve reporting time lines, maintain service to programs, and provide excellent customer service to both internal and external customers
Lead monthly, quarterly and annual close processes, including the communication of time lines, monthly accruals, and the timely completion of balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring accurate reporting of financial results
Prepare monthly financial reporting package for program managers
Work with program managers to ensure tangible capital asset records are maintained to meet PSAB Standards and Lil’wat Nation Financial Administration Law requirements
Prepare GST/HST Public Services Bodies’ rebate and GST Self-Government refund returns
Develop and ensure adequate documentation, awareness and compliance with the Lil’wat Nation Financial Administration Law and supporting policies
Prepare or review annual audit working papers for the external auditors
Assist the Director of Finance in preparing the annual budget
Provide assistance to the Director of Finance as required
Qualifications:
Degree in Business, specializing in Accounting, Finance or related field
Completion of, or enrollment in, a professional designation program (CA, CGA, CMA, or CPA)
Minimum of five years of related professional experience
Proven effective leadership, supervisory, and communication skills are essential
Computer experience to advanced level with spreadsheet and database software; and to intermediate word processing, email, and presentation software required
Experience with PSAB Accounting Standards, ACCPAC, and Erequester is an asset
Previous experience with First Nations preferred
