Established in 1989, the Government Finance Officers Association of British Columbia is a not-for-profit organization that represents local government finance officers in 160 Municipalities and 28 Regional Districts around the Province of British Columbia.
Our Vision is to be the leading association for local government financial management in Canada. Our Mission is to promote excellence in local government through the support and development of our members. Our core Values are Professionalism, Leadership and Collaboration. Our Focus is on the support, education and development of finance professionals.
We offer a wide variety of courses, webinars and workshops on topics of current interest and relevance. We also provide opportunities for our members to connect with other local finance professionals and supporting organizations through regular newsletters, events and our annual Conference and Trade Show.
The GFOABC is a progressive, organization; growing to support the needs of its members and Board of Directors. With a new strategic plan and work underway on a new brand, full service website and online presence, the organization is looking forward to an exciting year in 2016.
Reporting to the GFOABC Board of Directors, this position has primary responsibility for advancing the vision, strategic direction and day to day operations of the association. The Executive Director coordinates strategic planning, provides policy advice to the Board of Directors and acts as the key liaison with external organizations and agencies.
Working with a small team of employees, the position is also responsible for overseeing a vibrant professional development education program; coordinating program committees and managing budget, human and other resources required for various programs events and initiatives. This position operates at a high level of independence and requires significant judgment and discretion.
The successful candidate will have a good understanding of local government and the role of the finance officer in the delivery of local government services. A formal accounting designation would be an asset. Remuneration includes a competitive salary, comprehensive benefits package and participation in the Municipal Pension Plan.
