The Association of Municipal Administrators Nova Scotia is a professional association dedicated to excellence in municipal administration. It provides training and a venue for appointed municipal government officials across the province to share resources and collaborate on issues of interest to municipalities. The AMANS has a mandate to continue to improve the professionalism of people working in municipal government. The AMANS is a not-for-profit organization which provides a broad range of membership services to over 200 members. It is an active organization, with an array of ongoing projects and initiatives.
The Opportunity: 12 month term with the possibility for renewal
The Position: Under the direction of the Association of Municipal Administrator’s Executive Director, the Event Coordinator/Finance Officer is responsible for the logistics involved for a successful execution of all AMANS events and seminars. As well, the ECFO maintains all financial records of the organization and provides membership support and other administrative duties. The position requires a high degree of initiative and confidentiality. As Event Coordinator you will provide logistical support for conferences and events, primarily the AMANS Fall Convention in October and the Spring Conference in June. This will include working with the respective planning committees, Executive Director and sponsors/exhibitors. Finance Officer: As Finance Officer you will use the accounting software Sage50 (formally Simply Accounting) to record all receivables and payables. You will be responsible for bank reconciliations, HST returns, financial reports and payroll. The Finance Officer prepares all audit schedules, making all necessary adjustments and acts as primary contact for AMA audit. Special Projects: There may be special projects during your term that you may be expected to support or potentially lead. Committee Support: There may be several committees that you will be responsible for supporting.
Education/Training/Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:
Post-secondary education or training through a recognized institution
Excellent communication skills both verbal and written;
Thorough knowledge of administrative/office management practices;
Excellent organizational and time management skills with proven abilities to prioritize a heavy workload with competing priorities;
Ability to work independently;
Must be flexible, mature and resourceful;
Good judgment and ability to solve problems;
Computer skills – Microsoft Software including – Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
Interpersonal and relationship building skills
General bookkeeping knowledge which would include:
Coordinating skills to organize and maintain financial records
Administrative skills to monitor financial data and interpret financial policies and procedures
Attention to detail and accuracy
Knowledge of Sage50 Software would be an asset.
Experience:
Customer service
Event planning
Full cycle accounting
Working with volunteers, committees and boards
The following would be an asset:
Experience working in a not-for-profit or municipal government environment;
Knowledge of local government in Nova Scotia;
Experience working with Committees and/or Boards;
Must have a valid driver’s license.
Note: The Annual Conferences will be held outside of the Halifax area and require the ECFO to be onsite for the duration which is 3-5 days.

Salary Range: $32,000 to $40,000 per annum depending on education and experience.
