The Manitoba Lung Association is a community health organization that seeks to improve lung health. The Association’s efforts are focused on preventing lung disease and improving the quality of life for the 1 in 5 Manitobans who must cope with the devastating effects of lung disease.
Currently, 65% of the organization’s $1.5 million budget has been generated from fundraising revenue. Recognizing the changing demographics, there is now the opportunity for The Manitoba Lung Association to reposition itself and enter a new phase in its development.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Fund Development participates in strategic planning and budgeting initiatives in addition to problem solving. She/he works to help achieve the organization’s mission within its policies and guidelines, is responsible for meeting the annual fundraising goals and objectives, and for specific projects as assigned. The Director of Fund Development is also responsible for providing strategic and tactical leadership to the creation and implementation of a comprehensive fund development plan including:
Solicitation of individuals, corporations, foundations and organizations,
Solicitation of sponsorships and in-kind gifts, and
Development and implementation of a donor stewardship program.
Responsibilities:
Accountable to create, implement, and adapt a strategic fund development plan and timeline that increases revenues to support the strategic direction of the organization
Provide professional support and direction to the Fund Development Committee of the Board of Directors, Executive Director, fund development and senior staff
Create a fundraising organizational structure to ensure volunteer and staff resources are deployed to maximize results
Direct the work of the fundraising staff including training, supervising, team building and conducting performance appraisals
Assist with the recruitment of volunteers, ensuring adequate and qualified staff and volunteers carry out fundraising activities
Recruit fundraising employees as necessary in consultation with the Executive Director
Ensure that donor prospect research is an integral part of the fund development plan
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Related University or College degree
Minimum 5 years of fundraising experience in a not-for-profit organization
Proven experience and results in developing and implementing annual giving and major gifts programs
Proven track record in cultivating and maintaining relationships with volunteers and donors
Member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals
Must possess a valid MB Driver’s License
CFRE designation is an asset
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Adept at working with fundraising software, database management (Raiser’s Edge) and Microsoft Office suite
Strong analytical and problem solving skills
The ability to supervise and motivate volunteers and staff
Strong written and oral communication skills
