The District of Oak Bay is a picturesque suburban community located on the southern tip of Vancouver Island. The District has a population of approximately 18,000 with its own Municipal Police and Fire Departments, along with all municipal services, with a heavy emphasis on recreational programs.

With the pending retirement of the incumbent, the District of Oak Bay has an exciting career opportunity and is inviting applications for the position of Director of Financial Services.

Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, you will be a member of the senior management team and function as a key advisor to senior management staff and council.

This opportunity provides a motivated and experienced individual the chance to direct, manage and advise on sound financial practices for the District. Together with a full complement of department staff, the Director will ensure the Corporation’s financial sustainability by developing sound financial policies, plans and processes, while ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), and direction on the overall operations of financial services including information technology, for the District.

The preferred candidate will have a professional accounting designation and be a member in good standing with ten years experience, five of which should be in a senior municipal financial administration capacity. The preferred candidate should have leadership and supervisory experience, hold certification in Local Government Statutory Administration, as recognized by the LGMA Board of Examiners and submit to a satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
