Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Director of Finance provides full-time financial and is responsible for:
statutory financial administrative duties under the Community Charter and Local Government Act;
financial management of the municipality;
preparing the annual operating and capital budgets;
advising Council on financial and economic matters relating to the municipality;
preparing quarterly financial updates, including forecasts;
working with the auditor in preparing the annual financial statement audit;
developing and administering financial policies and procedures;
managing and maintaining entries in the general ledger and other accounting functions;
assisting with development of the asset management plan;
exercising control and supervision over all financial affairs; and
overseeing the financial information systems
The successful candidate will have five years experience with a professional accounting designation (CPA or equivalent) or an equivalent combination of education and experience, preferably in a local government setting. In addition, the successful candidate will have proven leadership abilities and excellent communication, interpersonal and team building skills. Prior experience with MAIS is required for this position and a working knowledge of PSAB accounting standards is preferred.
