Director of Finance

Inuvik is a place of rich diversity, located on the Mackenzie Delta – Canada’s largest fresh water delta. This town of 3500 is close to the Arctic Ocean, with a spectacular view of the Richardson Mountains. Inuvik is the government centre and transportation hub for the Western Arctic and is nestled between the treeless tundra and the northern boreal forest, overlooking an incredible maze of lakes and streams of the Delta. As a member of the Senior Management team, the Director of Finance will help the community to continue with its growth in a fiscally responsible manner.

Reporting directly to the Senior Administrative Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring all financial matters of the Town of Inuvik are maintained effectively and in accordance with the guidelines for the Cities, Towns and Villages Act. Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to: Financial policy, treasury, audits, taxes, current and long range budgets, staff supervision and general administration. Guiding a team of five, you will align human and financial resources and advise and assist the Senior Administrative Officer on the successful execution of day-to-day operations.

In addition to having exposure in a municipal environment, you have at least 5 years of relevant financial leadership experience and an in-depth understanding of generally accepted accounting principles. You have the ability to work collaboratively across functions and engage a diverse stakeholder group.
