The shíshálh Nation (Sechelt Indian Band) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced senior accountant to manage the Finance Department and oversee the Nation’s accounting functions.
Position Summary
The Director of Finance manages the Finance Department staff and consultants, and the shíshálh Nation’s and Sechelt Indian Government District’s accounting functions. Responsibilities include financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, internal controls, audits, preparation of financial statements, and payroll. As well as managing the accounting staff and functions, this position also performs some ‘hands on’ accounting work. As part of the management team reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Director provides leadership and guidance in financial matters to other department heads. The Director also coordinates work with government business entities to ensure sound overall planning and decision making and to support consolidated reporting where required; and works with the CAO, Council, and outside experts as necessary on strategic planning for the Nation.

This position is located on the Sunshine Coast, a vibrant community of 30,000 located a short 40 minute ferry ride from West Vancouver. Qualifications
Ideally, you have a professional accounting designation, including CAFM, and at least five years senior accounting and management experience, preferably in a First Nation or local government setting. Knowledge of financial legislation, government funding agreements, government business entities, and relevant taxation would be strong assets. Strong communication and team leadership skills have enabled you to successfully work with internal and external stakeholders.
