The Sooke School District is seeking a positive and dynamic leader to join our senior management team as the Director of Finance. The individual who is selected will provide financial leadership to support the Board’s strategic plan and student and staff learning. This position reports directly to the Secretary-Treasurer, (Chief Financial Officer) and shares in overall financial management and direction setting for the district.
Adjacent to Victoria on southern Vancouver Island, School District 62 (Sooke) is the fastest growing school district on the island. Currently with 9400 students and 27 schools, the district is expected to grow at 300 students per year (3 to 4% annually) over the next ten years. School District 62 operates in five municipalities, Sooke, Metchosin, Colwood, Langford and the Highlands and serves three First Nations communities. The district is financially stable with an operating budget of over $82 million. The Position
As a key member of the senior management team, the Director of Finance has responsibility for financial planning and reporting, budget development and management of financial records in accordance with statute and generally accepted accounting principles. The Director of Finance will provide leadership to financial department staff in developing and maintaining effective financial management practices including maximizing use of current technological solutions for financial processes.
The Applicant
The successful applicant will possess a:
Professional accounting designation and five years related experience in a senior financial role in the education sector; or
Professional accounting designation and seven years related experience in a senior financial role in the public sector; and
Progressively responsible experience in budget development and financial analysis; and
Experience in the leadership and supervision of staff.
