We are seeking a permanent 0.5FTE Director of Finance. The Director of Finance oversees the Finance Department and reports directly to the Executive Director.
Primary responsibilities will include:
Month-end reporting and review
Year-end reporting
Working paper preparation
Financial statement preparation
Coordination with auditors
Project reporting and analysis, including preparation of grant applications and completion of financial project submissions as well as reconciliation to internal accounts
Departmental reporting and allocations
Preparation of all government filings including the charity return
Budget preparation
Asset and debt management
Investment management
Additional accounting/special project work as required
Supervision and mentoring of accounting staff
Board liaison
As the ideal candidate you:
Possess a recognized accounting designation or are working toward your designation and have a solid understanding of accounting from your previous work experience.
Have at minimum, post-secondary education at college or university level in accounting.
Have at least 3 years experience in a senior financial role, ideally in a not-for-profit organization.
Have strong work ethic and good analytical and problem solving skills to tackle projects in a comprehensive and critical manner.
Are a strong, mature leader.
Take initiative and work independently.
Meet all deadlines while multitasking.
Demonstrate superb organizational, communication, and inter-personal skills.
Possess a strong knowledge of Quickbooks accounting software and MS Excel.
Have accounting experience with residential rentals, housing programs, childcare facilities and government grants.
This is a permanent, part time position, at approximately 20 hours per week. Normal working hours will occur between Monday and Friday, 7:30 to 5:30. Actual schedule to be determined and flexibility is possible. Location of work is our head office at 358 Herring Cove Rd. The successful candidate will be eligible for our comprehensive health plan benefits as well as our defined contribution pension plan. Parking is provided.
You may be required to complete First Aid and CPR training, Work Hazard and Safety Training (WHMIS), and a Police Security and Child Abuse Registry check.
