The Armstrong Spallumcheen Fire Department services the communities of Armstrong (urban) and Spallumcheen (rural) which are located in the beautiful North Okanagan valley. With a combined population of approximately 10,000, we are only 15 minutes north of the City of Vernon on Highway 97A. Our location allows for a quality lifestyle with access to many amenities.

We are seeking a dedicated professional to join our team in the capacity of Deputy Fire Chief – Training Officer / Operations to help lead our volunteer department of approximately 36 firefighters.

As an employee of the City of Armstrong, this exempt position is full-time permanent and includes a comprehensive benefits package and competitive salary that is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Deputy Fire Chief – Training Officer / Operations reports to the Fire Chief and is responsible for formulating, implementing and administrating the training program to all fire department personnel. In the absence of the Fire Chief, this position will be required to carryout those administrative duties. This position is operational and will be expected to respond to emergency calls as well as assist with inspections and fire safety plan reviews.

The position will be of interest to a fire professional who has proven leadership abilities, well developed organization skills and effective communication and public relation skills. We are seeking a candidate with a minimum of 10 years firefighting experience; with 5 years at a senior fire command level and experience with training in the fire service.
