The District of Sparwood has an excellent employment opportunity for an enthusiastic, highly motivated individual to assume the role of Deputy Director of Finance in our Finance Department. Reporting to the Director of Finance, this exempt position will be responsible for the day to day operation of the Finance Department, as well as assisting the Director of Finance with the preparation of departmental budgets, annual financial reporting and other statutory reporting requirements. The Deputy Director of Finance is a key member of the management team and will be expected to provide input in the preparation of policies and procedures and the development of long term goals and objectives for the District. This position supervises and mentors three positions in the bargaining unit.

We are seeking a collaborative, results-oriented leader with considerable knowledge of public or private sector financial accounting and reporting principles and requirements under PSAB and IFRS.

The ideal candidate will have:
A recognized professional accounting designation or have a combination of accounting/management experience along with appropriate education
Have superior written and verbal communication skills
Political astuteness and organizational awareness to identify potential business problems and opportunities
A track record of growing, developing and empowering staff
Excellent financial analysis, strategic planning, fiscal and project management skills
Thorough knowledge of the principles, best practices and concepts related to financial management and accounting in a municipal setting
Well-developed organizational and time management skills
A positive, energetic approach to work
