The Village of Port Clements requires a highly motivated individual with excellent public relations and interpersonal skills for the position of Deputy Clerk/Treasurer. This position is well suited for an individual who enjoys working with the public in an ever changing environment. As the Deputy Treasurer the successful applicant will be responsible for moderately complex accounting tasks, including, but not limited to: maintaining general ledger accounts; disbursements and collection of funds; taxation notices; assist in the preparation of budgets; and preparation of financial statements. In addition the Deputy Clerk will be required to: take meeting minutes; prepare meeting agendas; implement Council policies and procedures; grant writing; records management and provide administrative support to the Chief Administrative Officer and Public Works Superintendent. Finally, the task of Bylaw Enforcement is being considered as part of this job description – it is currently under review by Council.
This is a 35 hours per week position. The attendance of evening and weekend meetings will be a requirement of the position. The successful candidate will also be required for emergency callouts.
The successful candidate will work with both the CAO and Public Works Superintendent, and report directly to the CAO.
Preferable skills include:
Several years of local government experience in a supporting finance/administrative roll or a minimum of five years recent accounting/clerical experience in positions of increasing complexity and responsibility.
Successfully completed Grade 12, supplemented by first year level courses leading to a recognized accounting degree.
Ability to safeguard confidential information
Excellent keyboard and calculator skills as well as understands and applies generally accepted accounting practices
The proven ability to work successfully in a team environment.
Ability to work successfully unsupervised.
Have good working knowledge of PC applications, including Excel and Word for Windows
Excellent communication skills with the ability to listen and respond appropriately to customers needs as well as communicate with tact and diplomacy
Excellent customer service
Excellent organizational skills
Ability to multi task
Successfully able to meet the pressures of deadlines as required
