Description:

The Pictou Landing First Nation seeks a qualified accountant to act as the Chief Financial Officer of the First Nation. The CFO will be responsible for leading the day-to-day operations of the finance department, and implementing the relevant provisions of the various operating agreements and Band Council Resolutions.

Qualifications:

The applicant should have the following qualifications:

Accounting designation (CA, CGA, or CMA)
5 years of experience in management and finance
Experience with simply accounting and xyntax software
Experience in working with auditors and facilitating annual audits
Understanding of federal funding agreements and reporting requirements
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Preference will be given to those with experience working with First Nation Communities

Duties:

Work with program managers to develop annual program budgets and ensure monthly and annual financial reporting requirements are met;
Provide monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports to the Chief and Council on administrative and program operational budgets;
Ensure that the Nation’s financial documents are accurate and readily available;
Ensure that the financial administration systems, policies, procedures, directions and internal controls are appropriately designed and operating effectively
To actively monitor compliance with any agreements and funding arrangements entered into by the Band;
To administer and supervise the maintenance of the records of all receipts and expenditures of the Band to facilitate the annual audit;
Represent Pictou Landing First Nation interests with lenders, funders and possible contributors as directed by Chief and Council;
To identify, assess, monitor and report on financial reporting risks and fraud risks;
To develop and recommend procedures for the safeguarding of assets, and ensure that approved procedures are followed
Supervise accounting department staff
