Bookkeeper / Accounting Assistant – University Neighbourhoods Association – Vancouver, BC

The University Neighbourhoods Association (The UNA) was established in 2002 to support the growth of a vibrant and sustainable community at the University of British Columbia and to provide municipal-like services for residents. We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Bookkeeper/Accounting Assistant to join our team.

Our ideal candidate enjoys managing a variety of responsibilities, has a strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial concepts, AR/AP, payroll and accounting software skills, mixed with a variety of analytical skills and proficiency in Microsoft Excel. The ideal candidate must be proficient in English and can communicate effectively and efficiently with co-workers, managers and UNA residents. This position is responsible for overseeing all bookkeeping activities while working closely with and reporting to the UNA Business Manager.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

Accounts payable
Accounts receivable
Manage timesheet system and other payroll related duties as assigned
Preparation of regular external filings such as GST, PST and T4’s
Preparation for “year-end” audit
All Invoicing
Reconciliation of cash and credit card
Organizing and maintaining accounting files and filing systems
Alert and follow up with staff with timesheets and expense reimbursement deadlines
Other accounting related projects, as assigned

Qualifications:

3-5+ years of bookkeeping and administrative experience. Background should include AP, AR, journal entries, bank reconciliations, and report preparation.
High intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written (excellent spelling and grammar) communication skills.
Superior attention to detail, and ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines. Excellent organizational skills.
Experience with Simply-Accounting, Sage, and Quickbooks software programs
Experience with ActiveNet would be an asset

Job Type:

Regular Full-Time (35 hours per week)

Required education:

Degree/diploma or equivalent from a recognized post-secondary institution; or related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of both education and experience.

The annual wage of this position is $48,000 to $58,000 with a comprehensive benefits package offered.
