SUMMARY OF ROLE
The Bookkeeper/Accountant will be responsible for coordinating and conducting all bookkeeping functions for a solar co-op and all related co-op entities. This position requires someone onsite at the TREC office to work with the TREC Services team at least 2 days/week.
Candidates for this position must be skilled at using Sage 50 and Microsoft Excel and have experience preparing financial reports, and with experience in project/departmental accounting and knowledge of, or experience with, investment management.
This position requires the ability to effectively multi-task and use time efficiently as well as excellent organizational skills to maintain the integrity of the accounting and filing systems of multiple companies.
The bookkeeper will work in collaboration with colleagues who manage SolarShare’s revenue and expense tracking but must be able to work in a self-directed manner and prioritize to meet deadlines.
Time Commitment: 3-4 days/week
Wage: $30-$35/hr commensurate with experience
Start Date: Must be able to start late September
Contract End: September or December 2016
JOB DESCRIPTION/AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Accounting for SolarShare and related Co-ops including:
Managing all bookkeeping entries to the accounting systems of each Co-op – full cycle bookkeeping
Intercompany transfers/entries on a monthly basis
Consolidation (through Sage 50 Consolidation Function) on a monthly basis and calculation of Monthly Consolidation Entry
Accounts Payable management:
Cheque runs
Payments via Electronic Funds Transfer
Entering payments made via bank draft/wire transfer managed by Service Team
Banking and deposits
Weekly travel in downtown Toronto required
Weekly Cash flow projections
HST Filings (schedule varies between co-ops – most are monthly) and liaising with the CRA should any filing be audited
Management of workbooks for all co-ops including but not limited to:
Accrual/reversal of power revenue on a monthly basis
Pre-paids management
Interest calculations and accruals
Amortization Schedules for debt and capital cost
Annual Audit preparation and facilitation (Feb/March 2016)
Supervise hard-copy and electronic filing of all financial records for all entities
Financial Reporting
Prepare monthly reports based on reporting templates including:
Consolidated Income Statement with comparison to budget
Consolidated Balance Sheet
AR/AP Report
Cash Flow Report (weekly)
Departmental Income Statement/Balance Sheet
Profit & Loss Report by Project
QUALIFICATIONS:
Advanced experience with Sage 50 (Simply Accounting)
Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel
Experienced with Project/Departmental Accounting
Experience with Fund Management/Investment Management an asset
Experience with multiple companies or consolidated businesses an asset
KEY SKILLS:
Strong problem-solving skills with an ability to troubleshoot and give attention to detail
Strong numeracy/math skills
Strong communication skills both in-person and written to share information effectively with staff/board
Ability to prioritize workload to complete daily/monthly/quarterly deadlines
Proven capacity to work in a self-directed manner
Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive matters
Knowledge of the renewable energy sector an asset
