Assistant Chief Financial Officer – Ucluelet First Nation

The Assistant Chief Financial Officer (ACFO) is a valuable member of the Finance Department, working together with a small and dedicated team to maintain the accounts of the Yuutu?it?ath Government, providing accurate and timely information to colleagues and external organizations. The ACFO’s primary role is maintaining the general ledger, and assisting the Chief Financial Officer in a range of activities, like year-end accounting, project reporting, and to provide advice on ad hoc matters arising in accounting, managerial accounting, and aspects of treasury management. As well, the ACFO will serve as backup for some activities in the finance department, like EFT payment releases, ad hoc payroll runs etc.

This position is well-suited for an early career accounting professional, who wants to be exposed to the full breadth of accounting related duties in a government setting, giving the candidate the ability to learn valuable skills in a unique, positive environment. The candidate will work closely with and is assisted by the Chief Financial Officer, who is a designated accountant and able to provide work verification or mentorship under CPA Canada’s practical work experience program. Qualifications and Experience:
Certificate or diploma in accounting or management.
Studying towards a professional accounting designation.
Minimum three years of exposure to accounting work experience, preferably in First Nations or local government settings, including all aspects of general ledger maintenance.
Experience in directly assisting a finance manager / director of finance etc. e.g. with year-end work and the annual budgeting processes.
