Accounts Receivable / Payable Clerk – Greater Victoria Public Library – Victoria, BC

Greater Victoria Public Library (GVPL) is an innovative library system with one of the highest per capita usage rates in Canada. Serving more than 318,000 residents in the Greater Victoria area, we provide library service to 10 municipalities.

We invite applications for the position of Accounts Receivable/Payable Clerk in the Finance & Facilities Department. As an integral member of the Finance Team, the position is responsible for processing revenue, cash/banking information, and accounts receivable and accounts payable transactions, administering customer account collections, reconciling accounts receivable and payable control accounts, and generating payments to vendors and payees.  This position also makes recommendations for process improvements in accounts receivable and payable.

Qualifications include:

Completion of first year CPA plus two years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, and customer service skills;
Experience working in a general bookkeeping or accounting position specifically in the areas of accounts payable and accounts receivable;
Proficiency and experience with spreadsheets (MS Excel) and word processing (MS Word);
Tact and diplomacy in dealing with confidential information; demonstrated organizational skills in setting priorities, meeting deadlines, handling multiple tasks effectively;
Experience working in a highly computerized environment and processing financial transactions using an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system and/or accounting software;
Knowledge and understanding of sub-ledgers and how they translate to general ledgers; understanding of the principles of accounts receivable processes and systems, POS systems, cash, taxation and account collection.

This 35 hour/week position is within the bargaining unit (CUPE 410) with an hourly wage of $25.95 to $27.32 and includes an attractive benefits package. Testing may be included as part of the recruitment process.
