The Powell River Regional District is actively seeking to fill a new unionized Accountant position.
Our management and staff are dedicated individuals committed to providing Regional District constituents respected and reputable local government services. Providing sound financial services is paramount. Therefore, we are seeking an individual with strong technical accounting skills and whom demonstrates a high degree of integrity, accuracy, and thoroughness, with a strong attention to detail.
As a valued member of the corporate Financial Services team, you will provide core accounting and financial services within a local government environment. You will support the Manager of Financial Services/Chief Financial Officer in carrying out legislated financial administrative and procedural functions associated with the powers, duties and functions assigned to the Chief Financial Officer. Your primary areas of focus will include:
Managing accounts payable and receivable
Providing general accounting services
Supervising the accounting system
Managing non-financial assets
Preparing operating and capital budgets
Providing year-end accounting services
In addition, you will provide financial services related to payroll and benefits administration, utility administration, parcel tax administration, grant administration, and financial reporting. Your skill set will also be utilized to support various financial aspects pertaining to the Regional District’s asset management program.

Our organization offers competitive wages and has an excellent benefits program. This employment opportunity is a full-time (35 hours per week) CUPE position. Hours of work are from Monday to Friday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm. The preferred start date is Tuesday, September 5th.
While having experience working within a local government organization is not a mandatory requirement to be successful within this position, it is considered an asset.
