The Municipal Insurance Association of British Columbia, founded in 1987, is a non-profit reciprocal insurance exchange formed to provide insurance and risk management services for BC local governments, of which there are currently 170.  The focus of the MIABC is efficient risk financing and effective risk management measures for the benefit of the members.

The MIABC is seeking an Accountant to fill a regular full time position. This hands on role will require a high degree of accuracy and will involve accounts payable, accounts receivable, collections, journal entries, bank and account reconciliations, monitoring budgets, variance analyses, maintaining a schedule of fixed assets and assisting with quarterly reporting and the preparation of the year end audit package. Additional responsibilities may include performing ad-hoc tasks including administration as needed. The Accountant will assist and report to the Controller.

The ideal candidate will be pursuing their accounting designation or have had a minimum of 3 years of work experience in a full cycle accounting role. Solid accounting knowledge and intermediate accounting skills are required to be successful in this role as well as being detail oriented and possessing above average written and oral communication skills. The successful candidate will have a strong work ethic, have the ability to prioritize duties and organize work schedules to meet deadlines, make mathematical calculations with speed and accuracy, and establish and maintain courteous, diplomatic and tactful working relationships. Proficiency in Excel is required and knowledge of Sage 300/ACCPAC is preferred. Exposure to insurance or property accounting and an understanding of local government would be an asset. Candidates should enjoy working in a service oriented small office environment. This position is located in the False Creek area.
