Safety & Environment Coordinator
Temporary position (6 months)

We are currently searching for a Temporary Safety & Environment Coordinator to assist the Safety & Security Department in all HSE activities for our St. John’s. This position is based in St. John’s (NL) and is responsible for all aspects of environmental management throughout the company.

Tasks and responsibilities

Monitor workplace conditions and work procedures to ensure compliance to Oceanex HSE Programs;
Assist in the continued development of a positive HSE culture by reviewing/validating job hazard assessments and safe work procedures;
Advise supervisory personnel on HSE procedures, standards and best practices;
Assist in the preparation and presentation of scheduled HSE briefings;
Regularly conduct off site employee HSE surveys (customer locations in metro St. John’s);
Maintain an up-to-date database of completed observations, briefings, hazard reports and inspections in support of HSE programs;
Represent department as a participant of the JOSH Committee;
Conduct workplace HSE Orientation training for employees and contractors (initial and refresher);
Assist Coordinators and Supervisors in the completion of initial incident/accident reports and investigations;
Assist in the coordination and execution of the Oceanex Emergency Response Program;
Design, implementation and maintenance of environmental programs to meet regulatory requirements with the aim of achieving best practices within the organization;
Perform other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications

Post secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety;
1-2 years of experience in an HSE position;
Knowledgeable in HSEQ management systems (ISO, OHSAS);
Post secondary education in environmental management/sciences (asset)​

Skills

Microsoft Office;
Good written and verbal communication skills;
Data analysis and trending;
Good presentation skills;
Experience working in the transportation/marine cargo industry is a definite asset.
